The Kehlsteinhaus (known as the Eagle's Nest in English-speaking countries) is a Third Reich–era building erected atop the summit of the Kehlstein, a rocky outcrop that rises above Obersalzberg near the town of Berchtesgaden. It was used exclusively by members of the Nazi Party for government and social meetings. It was visited on 14 documented instances by Adolf Hitler, who disliked the location due to his fear of heights, the risk of bad weather, and the thin mountain air.[1][2] Today it is open seasonally as a restaurant, beer garden, and tourist site.

he Dokumentation Obersalzberg is a place of guided learning and remembrance designed by the Institut für Zeitgeschichte Munich-Berlin on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria. It offers the visitor to this historic site the opportunity to study and reflect on the history of Obersalzberg and the history of National Socialism. To achieve this goal the permanent exhibition is accompanied by special exhibitions, lectures and events as well as a comprehensive educational program. Dokumentation Obersalzberg thus serves to reflect on the National Socialist past.

Berchtesgaden is a municipality in the district Berchtesgadener Land, Bavaria, in southeastern Germany, near the border with Austria, 30 km (19 mi) south of Salzburg and 180 km (110 mi) southeast of Munich. It lies in the Berchtesgaden Alps, south of Berchtesgaden; the Berchtesgaden National Park stretches along three parallel valleys. The Kehlstein mountain (1,835 m (6,020 ft)), with its Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest) is located in the area.
