This is a dramatic, 6,000-kilometer geological trench running north-to-south through the country, formed by tectonic plate movements. It features stunning escarpments, volcanic mountains, and a series of freshwater and alkaline soda lakes (including Nakuru, Naivasha, and Bogoria) that are critical for wildlife and biodiversity, particularly migratory birds.

While the park was once known worldwide mainly for flamingos, its modern identity is even more significant: it is now a core rhino sanctuary, a globally important wetland ecosystem, and a frontline conservation landscape operating under real environmental and human pressure.
