Le temple d'Uluwatu est un sanctuaire marin balinais situé à Bali. Construit au XIe siècle, il est l'un des neuf temples directionnels destinés à protéger Bali des esprits maléfiques. Le bâtiment fut entièrement agrandi par un sage javanais, Empu Kuturan, au XIe siècle. Un savant alternatif de Java oriental, Dang Hyang Nirartha, est reconnu pour la construction des sanctuaires Padmasana et est certainement à l'origine de Moksha ici. Bien plus magnifique que le sanctuaire lui-même est son emplacement, perché sur une haute falaise à 70 mètres au-dessus des vagues tumultueuses de la mer Indienne.
