Le temple Tenryuji, temple principal de l'école Rinzai du bouddhisme zen, est un temple zen emblématique d'Arashiyama, à Kyoto, célèbre pour son magnifique jardin et ses peintures au plafond. Inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO en 1994, avec les temples Kiyomizu, Kinkakuji, Tōji et le château de Nijō, il est une destination prisée des touristes japonais et étrangers. Embroidered paintings are characterized by their realism that goes beyond painting, due to the shine of the overlapping silk threads and the various embroidery techniques.
