Osu Castle
Christiansborg Castle, also known as Osu Castle or Fort Christiansborg, is a 17th-century fortress located on the shores of Osu in Accra, Ghana's capital, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean's Gulf of Guinea. The castle was originally built by the Danes and has changed hands multiple times among Denmark, Norway, Portugal, the Akwamu, Britain, and, finally, post-independence Ghana. It has been rebuilt numerous times throughout its history.
Unique among castles and forts in Ghana, Christiansborg Castle has served as the seat of government for most of its existence, with some interruptions, until the government relocated to the Jubilee House. The castle has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, and archaeological investigations have been ongoing in the surrounding areas since 2014. In 2017, the castle was transformed into a Presidential Museum as part of Ghana's 60th-anniversary legacy project.
