We know that the immense Mayan cities of Tikal and El Mirador are the most popular in the area of Peten, however, we find other small cities around, such as Tayasal, where El Mirador del Rey Canek is located.
This is one of the last Mayan kingdoms to be conquered by the Spaniards in the year 1697. By that moment, the city of Tayasal was already full of vegetation, so the Spaniards didn´t know about it. The existence...

Once we get to the other side, we will start an easy 10 minutes hike to get to the viewpoint of El Mirador del Rey Canek. From there, you can see Flores Island, Lake Peten Itza, and even the Mundo Maya International Airport.
Something that not many people know is that the viewpoint is actually the top of a pyramid built by the ancient Mayan King called Canek. It is now covered in vegetation and is used as a viewpoint.
During your visit, we will also tell you about the kingdom of El Rey Canek and the stelae that have been found there recently. Viewing the sunset from the highest point is breathtaking. Appreciate nature, the lake, the island, and relax.
