Emerald Bay State Park
Emerald Bay State Park is a state park of California in the United States, centered on Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, a National Natural Landmark.[1] Park features include Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion that is considered one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States.[2] The architect was Leonard Palme, who was hired by his aunt Laura Knight to design and build Vikingsholm. The park contains the only island in Lake Tahoe, Fannette Island. The park is accessible by California State Route 89 near the southwest shore of the lake. Emerald Bay is one of Lake Tahoe's most photographed and popular locations.

Fannette Island
Fannette Island is the only island in Lake Tahoe. It is located in Emerald Bay on the west shore of the lake. The island is a sparsely timbered, brush covered upthrust of granite that rises 150 feet above the water. It has been known by many names over the years, including Coquette, Fannette, Baranoff, Dead Man's, Hermit's, and Emerald Isle. The name Fannette finally stuck.
Geologists believe that Emerald Bay was gouged out by glaciers thousands of years ago. So why did Fannette Island remain? It is believed that the island is a resistant rib of granite rock which was overridden by the glacial ice.
The stone structure on top of the island is the "Tea House". It was built during the same time that Vikingsholm was constructed, from 1928-29. Mrs. Knight, the owner of Vikingsholm, and her guests would occasionally be served tea there. The Tea House is a small, rustic building with a fireplace in the corner and a large oak table and four oak chairs in the center.
