Budapest tells two different stories through its food, and this tour lets you pick which one to taste. Choose Óbuda, the city's oldest quarter, built over Roman ruins, where a working butcher shop, a restaurant with over 125 years of history and a local cafe unfold across 8 tastings of Hungarian sausage, lángos, fánk and homemade strudel. Or choose Downtown Budapest, where grand boulevards and Baroque courtyards frame 8 tastings of hearty gulyás soup, crispy lángos, tangy pickled vegetables and Hungarian meats, finished with chimney cake and a small Hungarian beer. Both routes are led by a guide who treats every stop like their own neighbourhood, and both hide a Secret Dish along the way, a local favourite we won't name until it's in front of you. Secret Food Tours built these routes into family kitchens that have fed locals for generations, not the ones built for tourists. Small groups, real recipes, real Budapest.

Hungarian Strudel Making Class: Stretch & Fill Two Ways
The Strudel is a typical Habsburg-Empire dessert, but it can be originated to the Turkish influence in Hungary. It is an essential part of the wedding dinner in the countryside. I use my mother’s recipe who makes the stretched version. This Strudel pastry is elastic, very thin and it is stretched by the hand. We make sweet and salty Strudel as well. Where I grew up, there were some typical fillings: poppy-seed with pumpkin, salty cabbage and sweet cottage cheese cream. Now you can make these on my special baking course. Come and join my culinary experience, learn about my family tricks and at the end of the course enjoy the result of your efforts. If you are also interested in cooking a complete Hungarian meal, you may enjoy my "Hungarian Cooking Class with Chef Marti" or the 4-hour "Premium Hungarian Cooking Class with Chef Marti."
Budapest Great Market Hall Chef‑Led Private Tasting Tour
Budapest’s markets can feel overwhelming at first — the crowded stalls, the unfamiliar cuts of meat. Many visitors walk through unsure of what they’re seeing or how it fits into everyday Hungarian life. This private tasting tour offers a clear, relaxed way to understand not just the market, but the food, history, and culture that shaped it — through the eyes of someone who grew up with it. My family has lived in Budapest for generations, and food has always been our way of understanding the world. Combined with years cooking professionally in the US and Hungary — including time in a two‑Michelin‑star kitchen and private chef work for visiting actors — I explain Hungarian cuisine through real experience rather than rehearsed stories. As we explore the Great Market Hall, our conversation moves naturally from ingredients to traditions from stories to history. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a deeper sense of Hungarian life, and the feeling that you’ve seen the market the way locals do.
It is a special culinary experience in my Hungarian home-style kitchen. Learn about local ingredients, Hungarian cuisine, customs, culture and everyday life while cooking together. Get hands-on cooking practice, useful tips and tricks, and enjoy a delicious meal together. Learn about iconic Hungarian dishes such as Goulash and Chicken Paprikas and discover how you can make them at home for your family and friends. Discover Hungary through its local gastronomy and enjoy a truly authentic Hungarian cooking experience. Looking for a more complete Hungarian cooking experience? My "Premium Hungarian Cooking Class with Chef Marti" is a 4-hour experience where we prepare a full 3-course Hungarian menu plus Hungarian Bites. You may also enjoy my "Hungarian Strudel Making Class" if you would like to try traditional Hungarian baking.
