Yala National Park
Yala National Park, located in the southeastern region of Sri Lanka, is the country's most visited and second-largest national park, covering nearly 979 square kilometers. Renowned for its incredible biodiversity, Yala is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The park is home to a wide array of animals, including the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, which boasts one of the highest leopard densities in the world. Elephants, sloth bears, and crocodiles are among the other large animals frequently spotted in the park. Yala is also a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 200 bird species recorded, including both resident and migratory species. The park's diverse habitats, ranging from dense jungles to open grasslands and freshwater lagoons, create a stunning backdrop for wildlife viewing. Yala's rich history is also evident in its ancient temples and rock carvings, adding a cultural dimension to its natural beauty.
