This combination tour consists of a morning tour of Xunantunich Maya Temple which is located 20 minutes driving distance from San Ignacio Town in the Maya Village of San Jose Succotz. To get to the site one must cross the Mopan River by a hand cranked ferry, which then gives us access to the one mile ascent into one of Belize’s most popular sites. Here you will enjoy sightings of pristine jungle surroundings, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, birds and iguanas. After lunch we head to Barton Creek Cave, which was once used by the Maya as a sacred ceremonial site. Itinerary
This combination tour incorporates a visit to the popular Maya Temple of Xunantunich located in the Maya village of San Jose Succotz. We will cross the Mopan River on a hand cranked ferry and then drive up to the parking lot and from there hike to the site. We will spend approximately 1.5 to 2 hours hiking, exploring, climbing pyramids, and learning about the history of this site and the Maya Civilization. We will break for lunch at a local restaurant in the village and after lunch we will head south east for a visit to the Maya ceremonial cave of Barton Creek; only accessible by canoe.
