Piazza San Marco
St. Mark’s Square is the dazzling heart of Venice — a grand open space where history, art, and daily life come together in breathtaking harmony. Surrounded by the golden splendor of St. Mark’s Basilica, the majestic Doge’s Palace, and the elegant arcades of the Procuratie, the square feels like an open-air stage set for centuries of Venetian glory.
Often described by Napoleon as “the drawing room of Europe,” St. Mark’s Square enchants visitors with its soaring bell tower, the gentle sound of orchestras playing at historic cafés, and the ever-changing light reflecting from the lagoon nearby.
Whether at sunrise, when the marble façades glow softly, or at sunset, when the square turns magical and luminous, St. Mark’s Square is an unforgettable experience — the true soul of Venice.
3

The construction of the Basilica of St. Mark was completed in 1092, and is an important example of Italo-Byzantine and Gothic architecture. It is of Gothic architecture and is considered one of Venice’s main landmarks. It was built as the residence of the Doge, the supreme authority of the former Venetian Republic, and today is the site of a museum, including the hidden treasures and passageways of the Doge.
