The archaeological city of Pompeii is a characteristic destination of the Campania region and of the suburban territory of Naples. The excavations extend for 440,000 m².
Starting from the end of the XVIII century, the remains of the ancient Roman city were brought to light: the archaeological investigations have not only revealed paintings, mosaics, furnishings and buildings, but have allowed us to reconstruct the lifestyle in Roman times. The Pompeian archaeological site, together with that of Ercolano and Oplonti, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
