Shkodër is one of Albania’s oldest and most culturally rich cities, often considered the gateway to the Albanian Alps. Located between Lake Shkodër and the rivers Buna, Drin, and Kir, the city has been a key crossroads of trade, culture, and history for centuries. Its most iconic landmark, Rozafa Castle, rises above the city and offers panoramic views of the lake, surrounding mountains, and plains. Shkodër is known as the heart of Albanian culture, with a strong tradition in music, photography, literature, and religious coexistence. Visitors can explore charming pedestrian streets, historic neighborhoods, museums, and lively cafés, all while feeling the relaxed northern Albanian atmosphere. As the main starting point for trips to Theth, Valbona, and Komani Lake, Shkodër perfectly blends urban life with easy access to dramatic alpine nature.

Grunasi Waterfall
Grunas Waterfall is one of the most impressive natural sights in Theth National Park. Cascading from a height of around 30 meters, the waterfall plunges down a steep rock face into a clear mountain stream below. It is easily accessible via a pleasant walk from Theth village, passing through meadows, traditional houses, and scenic alpine views. The surrounding cliffs and greenery create a dramatic backdrop, making it a popular spot for photography and short nature breaks. In spring and early summer, the waterfall is especially powerful due to snowmelt from the surrounding mountains. Grunas Waterfall perfectly captures the wild character of Theth, combining raw natural force with serene mountain surroundings.

Blue Eye of Theth
The Blue Eye of Theth is a stunning natural spring hidden in the heart of the Albanian Alps. Known for its intense turquoise and deep blue colors, the spring gets its name from the way water emerges from underground, creating the illusion of a giant eye. Surrounded by forest and rock formations, it is reached by a scenic hike through riverbeds, wooden bridges, and alpine landscapes. The water is exceptionally cold and crystal clear, flowing directly from mountain sources. The Blue Eye is one of the most photographed spots in Theth and a symbol of the area’s pristine nature. It offers a peaceful and refreshing stop for hikers, especially during summer, and represents the raw, untouched beauty that defines the Albanian Alps.
