Lao Chai is a larger Black H’mong village nestled in the heart of Muong Hoa Valley. As trekkers arrive, they’re greeted by sweeping views of layered rice terraces and daily village life. This is where the group pauses for a freshly prepared local lunch—often served at a family home or simple eatery, offering traditional flavors and a chance to rest. It’s a perfect moment to connect with the surroundings and reflect before continuing the journey toward Ta Van.

After trekking through terraced landscapes and river crossings, travelers reach Ta Van, a tranquil village home to the Giay ethnic group. Here, stilt houses line the valley floor, surrounded by lush fields and mountain backdrops. It’s a quieter, more spacious setting than previous villages—ideal for observing daily rural life, from bamboo weaving to herding ducks along the river.
