Basilica of San Clemente
The Basilica of San Clemente is one of the most fascinating sites in Rome. It is a three-level structure, with the original Roman ground level once occupied by a mint. In the 4th century, a church was built on top of this Roman building, which remained standing until the 12th century. At that time, it was deemed unsafe and was filled in with rubble to serve as the foundation for a new basilica. This site offers a journey through ancient Roman times to the Middle Ages, rich with historical significance.

Catacombe San Sebastiano
The catacombs were originally natural underground galleries created by the Romans during the extraction of volcanic stones. Initially, these galleries served as secret meeting places for early Christians. Over time, the Christians transformed them into tombs, developing an extensive network of subterranean galleries that crisscrossed and extended for miles, often spanning two or three levels.

Case Romane del Celio
A typical example of the transformation from the private homes of wealthy Christian people into churches is astonishing! It is remarkable how the private homes of wealthy Christians transformed into churches.

Santa Cecilia in Trastevere
In the renowned district of Trastevere stands an elegant church. During Roman times, this area was known as the 14th region of Rome, called Transtiberim. It included the Janiculum hill and the Vatican, which were located outside the city walls. The area's unique geography, with a bend in the river and abundant water resources, facilitated various crafts, including leather curing. Trastevere was home to numerous mills, baths, fields, and temples, and the ample space allowed for the development of many public housing projects. Tradition holds that the Basilica was built on the site of one of these homes where Cecilia lived.
