Itinerary
1
St. Peter's Square
Travelers will arrive at the iconic St. Peter's Square, the grand open space designed by Bernini and located directly in front of St. Peter’s Basilica. Here, guests will receive their entry instructions and orientation before proceeding toward the basilica entrance.
During the visit, travelers can admire the sweeping colonnades, the central Egyptian obelisk, and the impressive façade of St. Peter’s Basilica. The square is also a key gathering point for pilgrims and visitors from around the world, offering a powerful first impression of Vatican City.
Depending on entry flow and security procedures, guests may spend time here before entering the basilica, using the opportunity to take photos and absorb the atmosphere of one of the most famous squares in the world.
20 minutes
2
St. Peter's Basilica
Travelers will enter the stunning St. Peter's Basilica and explore one of the most extraordinary religious and architectural landmarks in the world at their own pace.
Once inside, they’ll use the audio guide to follow a self-guided experience through the vast interior of the basilica. They’ll be able to stop freely and take in key masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s Pietà, Bernini’s Baldachin above the Papal Altar, and the incredible scale of the nave leading toward the dome.
As they move through the basilica, travelers will learn the history behind its construction, the symbolism of its design, and the importance of its role within Vatican City. The experience is designed to be flexible and independent, allowing visitors to fully absorb the atmosphere without a group or fixed schedule.
They can also spend time admiring the side chapels, ornate decorations, and quiet sacred areas that make the basilica one of the most visited and admired sites in the world.
40 minutes
3
Vatican Grottoes
Travelers will have the opportunity to visit the atmospheric The Vatican Grottoes, located beneath St. Peter's Basilica. This sacred underground area is the final resting place of many popes and an important part of Vatican history.
During the visit, travelers can walk through the quiet passageways and view the simple chapels, tombs, and memorials dedicated to past pontiffs. The atmosphere is noticeably different from the grandeur of the basilica above—more intimate, reflective, and historical.
Guests will be able to pause, observe the details of the papal tombs, and gain deeper insight into the spiritual and historical legacy of the Vatican before continuing their experience inside the basilica.
30 minutes
4
Cupola del Vaticano
Guests will begin by entering the basilica and following the designated access route toward the dome climb. From there, they can ascend either by stairs or a combination of elevator and stairs (depending on ticket option), gradually making their way up through narrow passages and interior walkways inside the structure.
Along the way, travelers will get a close-up view of the basilica’s interior mosaics and architectural details from above. Once at the top, they will reach the panoramic terrace, where they can enjoy sweeping 360-degree views over Rome, including St. Peter’s Square, Vatican City, and major landmarks across the city skyline.
This is a physically rewarding experience, offering one of the best panoramic viewpoints in Rome and a unique perspective of the dome’s architecture from the inside and the top.
