Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is a Renaissance masterpiece of the Vatican, famous for Michelangelo's frescoes and its unique liturgical and artistic function.The walls of the Chapel are decorated with frescoes by great artists of the fifteenth century such as Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Pinturicchio, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Luca Signorelli, Piero di Cosimo and Cosimo Rosselli, depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments. The ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, represents a starry sky with biblical figures and prophets, culminating in the famous scene of Adam's Creation. On the altar wall is the Last Judgment, made between 1535 and 1541, depicting Christ the Judge and numerous saints and damned
