Itinerary
1
Ravanica Monastery
Completed in the year 1377, Ravanica Monastery was built by one of the most important Serbian rulers ever, Prince Lazar, a brave nobleman who selflessly laid down his life on the altar of the fatherland defending the ideals of Christianity and liberty in the Battle of Kosovo in 1389.
The richly decorated exterior of the five-domed Church of the Ascension bears the seal of the Moravian school of medieval Serbian architecture, while the interior is decorated with rather damaged, but still striking frescoes. The coffin with the body of Prince Lazar is in the church and his relics are on display to believers and admirers on Sundays and other important Christian holidays.

Manasija Monastery
Manasija monastery built at the beginning of the 15th century by Despotes Stephen, Lazar's son, a man who proclaimed Belgrade capital of Serbia, poet, diplomat, and knight, Despot Stefan Lazarevic. The outer walls of the monastery complex are the most preserved medieval fortification in our country. Twelve high towers and mighty walls protected the church of the Holy Trinity with exquisite frescoes, as well as the remains of once the most important scribal school in this part of Europe.
