Itinerary
1
Castel del Monte
Your guide will pick you up directly from your accommodation in Bari and escort you on a scenic drive of around 70 minutes through the Apulian countryside to the magnificent Castel del Monte. Rising alone on a gentle hill, this extraordinary 13th-century castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Italy’s most fascinating monuments. Built by Emperor Frederick II, it is renowned for its perfect octagonal shape, a masterpiece of medieval architecture blending science, art, and symbolism. Neither true fortress nor palace, Castel del Monte reflects Frederick’s vision of harmony between mathematics, astronomy, and nature. From its terraces, sweeping views stretch across olive groves to the Adriatic Sea, making the visit as inspiring as it is unforgettable.

Trani
After visiting the UNESCO-listed Castel del Monte, your guide will continue the journey to the elegant seaside town of Trani. Here you will admire the impressive Swabian Castle from the outside, a powerful fortress built by Frederick II overlooking the Adriatic Sea. You will then visit Trani’s stunning Romanesque Cathedral, both outside and inside: a luminous masterpiece of pale stone that seems to rise directly from the water, celebrated for its refined architecture and serene atmosphere. Strolling through the historic Jewish quarter, you’ll discover narrow streets rich in history and tradition. The visit ends at the charming fishing port, where every morning local fishermen sell their fresh Adriatic seafood, offering a vivid glimpse into authentic coastal life.

Bitonto
After Trani, the tour continues to the medieval town of Bitonto, a hidden gem rich in history and atmosphere. You will explore its beautifully preserved historic center, characterized by ancient stone buildings, quiet squares, and winding streets. The highlight is Bitonto’s magnificent Romanesque Cathedral, considered one of the finest examples in southern Italy, with its elegant façade and remarkable interior. Walking along the old city walls and past noble palaces, you’ll sense the town’s deep medieval soul. Bitonto becomes especially enchanting after sunset, when soft lights illuminate its architecture, creating a romantic and authentic atmosphere that reveals the town at its most beautiful.
