Bukit Melawati
Bukit Melawati, also known as Melawati Hill, is a historical and scenic hill located in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia, about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur. It is a popular tourist destination known for its historical landmarks, picturesque views, and unique wildlife.
One of the main attractions of Bukit Melawati is the ruins of the historic fortress known as Kota Melawati, which dates back to the 18th century when it was built by Sultan Ibrahim Shah of Selangor to defend against Dutch and Bugis invaders. Visitors can explore the remnants of the fortress walls, cannons, and other structures while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding area.
Another highlight of Bukit Melawati is the resident silvered leaf monkeys, also known as silver leaf langurs or "beruk" in Malay. These friendly and photogenic monkeys roam freely around the hill and are a delight to visitors, though it's important to observe them from a respectful distance.
