The Nguyen's Dynasty (Vietnam's last feudalist state) erected the Hue Citadel from 1804 to 1833. The Imperial City grounds are guarded with 2-kilometer-long walls and surrounded by a moat. There are numerous distinct building works inside the Citadel, such as the Imperial City Gates, the Purple Forbidden City, Temples and places of worship, pavilions, and gardens.
