Walking (optional) Zabala Square, named after the founder of Montevideo, features gardens designed by French landscape architect Édouard André. The gardens are enclosed by iron fences and gates. The Square is surrounded by Ring Durango Street, named for the district of town where Zabala was born. On the south side of the square is the Taranco Palace, home to the Museum of Decorative Arts.

Plaza Independencia
Plaza Independencia is the most important square in Montevideo, Uruguay. Located in the city center, it occupies the space once held by the Citadel of Montevideo. At its center stands the monument and mausoleum of General José Gervasio Artigas. Prado is a quiet and exclusive residential district known for the extensive park of the same name, where visitors stroll among native and exotic plants in the botanical garden and roses planted around stone arches in El Rosedal.
