Private Day trip from Vienna to Orava Castle
Vienna
About
Available only on weekends (Saturday–Sunday) from October 1th to April 30th.
Orava Castle is a true stronghold — a fortress built directly onto a sheer rock above the Orava River, rising in three levels that follow the cliff. Very few castles in Central Europe match its position or its silhouette. When you walk through it, you move upward through centuries of fortification rather than through a polished museum path.
Orava Castle isn’t just a rock-built stronghold; it’s also a piece of film history. Scenes from the 1922 silent classic horror movie "Nosferatu : A symphony of Horror" were shot here, making it one of the earliest Dracula filming locations.

Terchova
We stop for a short walk to the impressive 7.5-meter steel statue of Jánošík.
Terchová uses the statue as a marker of identity: “this is the village where the legend comes from.”
It stands for local pride, the Jánošík story, and the connection between the village and its famous outlaw-born-here figure.

Orava Castle
Orava Castle is one of Slovakia’s most spectacular landmarks.
Dating back to the 13th century, this multi-level fortress blends Gothic, Renaissance, and Romanesque architecture, offering panoramic views and centuries of history in stone.

Oravsky Podzamok
After exploring the fortress above, we descend into the village of Oravský Podzámok for a lunch.
Restaurants serve Slovak cuisine — food that warms you and fills you up.
Typical dishes include bryndzové halušky (potato dumplings with sheep cheese and bacon), kapustnica (sauerkraut soup), and grilled meats with rich local flavors.
Lunch is optional and flexible — but we strongly recommend it as a cultural (and delicious) part of the experience.
