Its walls are in the form of towers and its streets are narrow, twisting and covered with steps. The town is also home to many well-preserved medieval buildings protected by UNESCO, including the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall) which was originally built in the 13th century and later reconstructed in Gothic style with an extravagant Baroque façade.
