Torre do Relogio ou Torre Sineira
The Torre Sineira, or bell tower, beside the City hall is one of Ponta Delgada’s key landmarks.
Built in the 16th century, the tower once acted as the city’s voice. Its bells marked the hours, announced celebrations, and warned people of danger.
You can climb the tower free of charge. At the top, after 106 steps, you are rewarded with a panoramic view over the city. Looking east, you may even see the outline of the Fogo volcano on the horizon.

Museu Carlos Machado

Jardim Botanico Antonio Borges
This romantic park was created in the 19th century by António Borges da Câmara de Medeiros, a wealthy Azorean businessman, landowner, and politician. Passionate about botany and experimentation, he transformed his private estate into a garden filled with plants from many parts of the world, testing how they would adapt to São Miguel’s mild climate.
Among the highlights are the remarkable fig trees, giant evergreens, and especially the Australian banyan tree, known for its powerful roots and broad canopy.
