The tour begins at 8:00 am with a visit to the Independence Monument, built to commemorate Cambodia’s freedom from French colonial rule in 1953. We then head to the Royal Palace, the official residence of the King, where you can admire its stunning Khmer architecture, followed by the Silver Pagoda, home to precious Buddha statues crafted from gold and adorned with jewels.
After a refreshing lunch break at a local restaurant, the afternoon explores Cambodia’s tragic past. We visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), once a prison during the Khmer Rouge regime, and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, a memorial site honoring the victims of this dark period.
Shifting to the city’s lively side, we stop at the Central Market (Psar Thmei), a landmark with an Art Deco design and vibrant stalls. The tour continues to Wat Phnom, the historic hilltop temple where Phnom Penh was founded, and ends with shopping at the popular Russian Market, perfect for souvenirs and handicrafts.
