Ouarzazate
Ouarzazate is a town in the south of Morocco's High Atlas Mountains, famous for being the gateway to the Sahara Desert. From its massive citadel of Taourirt, which houses a 19th-century palace, you can look out over the region's rugged landscape, which has been used as a backdrop for several films. To the northwest is the fortified red earthen town of Ait ben Hadu. The rocky Todra Gorges lie to the northeast. A road winds southeast through the lush palm groves of the Dra Valley to the desert.
