Itinerary
1
Roma
Head to the arty enclave of Roma; an area with a hipster edge, where you’ll no doubt fall in love with the perfect combination of colorful colonial buildings, Art Nouveau architecture, quirky bookshops, and veggie food spots.
Maybe you’ll eat and drink your way through the district, cafe hopping your way through quirky coffee shops, sipping on a beer or tasting your way through the diverse food scene. Perhaps you’ll stop by Mercado Roma; a covered market where you can fill your tummy at some of Mexico City’s most popular eateries.
2
Mercado Roma
In a taco shell (get it?), you’ll discover the dizzying world of tacos in Mexico City with one of our Mexican hosts, who can’t wait to show you that the real deal is nothing like the Americanized version you may be used to.
There are hundreds of types of tacos, and thousands of taquerías you could try them at, saying nothing of the various toppings and salsas you can garnish them with.
We find that when learning new things, a practical approach is key, so to learn about the taco scene you’ll need to do a fair amount of eating.
You’ll explore the city together, trying eight types of tacos at some very local spots indeed, and discover the explosive flavor and texture combinations mounted atop the tortilla.
Tacos even pre-date the Spanish arrivals, so rest assured you’re learning about an important part of Mexico City’s heritage. Who said prolonged snacking wasn’t educational?
3
Condesa
Perhaps you’ll check out the leafy green Parque Mexico for an afternoon in the sunshine, grab a snack from an all-day street vendor; like fresh coconut juice, juicy pineapples, or sticky sweet potatoes covered in cream.
Relish in the local vibe and enjoy a full sensory experience with your host, exploring restaurants, cafes, street art, quirky shops, bars, and a diverse nocturnal neighborhood.
4
Bosque de Chapultepec
Stroll around the historic Bosque de Chapultepec and absorb the city’s history as you chat to your host
5
Zocalo
The city has such an incredible history, which is why you might like to start in Zócalo, an ancient square which used to be the center of the Aztec Empire before it was captured by the Spanish colonists.
Follow your host around the surprisingly green broadways of the city center as they share its rich heritage with you.
6
El Angel de la Independencia
Whatever you’d like to do, be it take in the famous sites, like the Ángel de la Independencia, or stroll around a quirky neighborhood, your host has got you covered and will make up for any Spanish you lack.
7
Coyoacan
Follow one of our Mexico City hosts through the creative neighborhood of Coyoacán, former home of world-renowned artist Frida Kahlo.
Now, she’d hardly have lived here if it were an average, run of the mill neighborhood, would she? No.
So, explore Coyoacán (aptly named after the mischievous coyote) and after your time with your host you could discover La Casa Azul (Frida’s former home), shady squares, exotic markets, decadent street food stalls and purple jacaranda-lined avenues.
Coyoacán is a place for artists, bohemians and cultural lovers of every description!
Do as the locals do, and hang about outdoors, people-watching, snacking, enjoying the live music and absorbing the progressive spirit of this bohemian neighborhood.
You may even catch people dancing in the streets! If you’re feeling brave, throw back tequila and join them. Okay, obviously not if it’s early in the morning, but then again, you’re on holiday.
8
Centro Historico
See the city's most famous sites in one day, as well as a few hidden gems along the way
9
Templo Mayor
Discover the city’s ancient Aztec history as well as more recent Spanish influences
Get tips from your local about other historic sites to visit during your stay
10
Mercado Sonora
Street food is king here, so you’ll explore a neighborhood of the city and eat at various street food stalls and taquerías for a taste of the real deal.
With dozens of varieties of tortas, pozole, mole, sopes and esquites to try, and that’s before you’ve even got us started on the dizzying world of tacos with their various toppings, salsas and garnishes.
You’ll be glad someone’s here to show you the ropes.
Feast your way through the streets and try the dishes which keep the city going at the places you know are authentic - it’s not hard to see, or taste, why CDMX has one of the best street food scenes in the world.
And we suppose there’s always room for dessert. Fresh mango with chili, la concha sweet bread or churros, anyone?
