On the first day, we will drive over the Carpathian Mountains to arrive in the region of Maramures. Here, we visit the tallest wooden church in Surdesti, before visiting a popular artist from the area.

Merry Cemetery
In the afternoon we will visit the Merry Cemetery in Săpânța, which comprises over 300 tombstones with paintings cheerfully depicting scenes from the lives of the deceased.

Barsana Monastery
We visit a new wooden monastery in Barsana. The impressive komplex was built in the 1990s, but carries on the traditional motifs with the naive interior paintings being a surprise.
