It runs under an agreement between the UAE and France, signed in March 2007, that allows it to use the Louvre's name until 2037 and has been described by the Louvre as "France’s largest cultural project abroad."
The Dome: The massive 180-meter diameter dome consists of 7,850 unique metal stars that form a complex geometric pattern, creating a moving "rain of light" as sun filters through. "Museum City": It is designed as a seaside "medina" or "museum city," featuring 55 white buildings inspired by low-lying local Arabic settlements. Location: Situated between sand and sea, the structure is surrounded by water, making it a "garden on the coast."
Universal Approach: The museum focuses on stories of human creativity and shared connections, featuring a permanent collection of over 700 artworks and significant loans from French cultural institutions.
