Are you ready to turn your hobbies into a business?
Two hours. Four neighbourhoods. Ten stops. One pastel de nata. That’s the deal, and it’s a good one.
Led by a local guide, you’ll experience the city chronologically, from the golden age of the Portuguese empire to the devastating 1755 earthquake, the revolution that ended 48 years of dictatorship, and the vibrant Lisbon locals love today.
Take in panoramic views at two viewpoints, step inside São Roque Church, one of the few places to survive the earthquake almost untouched, stand in the square where history changed in 1974, pass beneath the iconic Santa Justa Lift, explore the world’s oldest operating bookshop, and visit the café where Fernando Pessoa was a regular.
Then it's down to P...

Departure
Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara
Please meet us at Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara by the fountain. Kindly arrive 10 minutes before the start time and look for our guide holding a yellow Carpe Diem Tours flag or sign. Please note that late arrivals are not eligible for a refund.
Kick off with Lisbon spread out before you, seven hills, São Jorge Castle, and the Tagus glittering in the distance. A proper opening shot.
12 minutes
2
Igreja de Sao Roque
Unassuming outside, jaw-dropping within. This Jesuit church, gilded with Brazilian gold and Italian marble, is the only one that survived 1755. (Note: It is closed on Mondays, so we can only enter the church on days when it is open).
12 minutes
3
Largo do Carmo
Ruins, revolution, and rooftop views. This square at Carmo Convent saw Europe's longest dictatorship collapse in a single day. Then climb up for panoramic Lisbon from above. (Note: We do not enter the church, we simply view it from the outside).
12 minutes
4
Elevador de Santa Justa
The iron lift looming over Baixa has an Eiffel connection, though perhaps not the one you'd expect. The story behind it is better than the selfie.
12 minutes
5
Livraria Bertrand - Chiado
Trading since 1732. Guinness-certified. The world's oldest operating bookshop is still very much open for business, so browse a shelf or two.
12 minutes
6
A Brasileira
Fernando Pessoa practically had a reserved table here. Soak up the literary atmosphere of the café that fuelled a generation of Portuguese writers.
12 minutes
7
Praca Luis de Camoes
Portugal's greatest poet presides over this elegant square. The stories of exploration, verse, and empire that swirl around it are well worth the pause.
12 minutes
8
Rua Nova do Carvalho
Once the city's red light district. Now painted bubblegum pink and buzzing with bars. The transformation is as striking as the colour.
12 minutes
9
Time Out Market Lisboa
One building, two worlds: a 19th-century traditional market and a world-class food hall side by side. Lisbon's appetite is on full display.
12 minutes
10
Manteigaria - Fábrica de Pastéis de Nata
The tour ends the only sensible way, with a warm pastel de nata from one of Lisbon's most celebrated bakeries. You've earned it.
