Itinerary
1
Cromwell Heritage Precinct
Step back in time in the beautifully preserved Cromwell Historic Precinct, where heritage buildings meet lakefront charm. Set on the edge of Lake Dunstan, this precinct is home to artisan shops, galleries, cafés, and wine bars nestled among stone buildings from the gold rush era. It’s the perfect place to take a break, enjoy a coffee, and soak in the unique character of old Cromwell.
30 minutes
2
Bannockburn
Cycle around the calm waters of the Bannockburn Inlet, where lake views, vineyard rows, and historic gold tailings create a landscape full of texture and character. From here, continue on to Carrick Winery, perched above the water and renowned for its organic wines and seasonal kitchen. Relax with a wine tasting or a long lunch — this is Central Otago at its most indulgent.
1 hour
3
Clyde Dam
As you ride into Clyde, take in views of the impressive Clyde Dam — New Zealand’s third-largest hydroelectric power station. Framed by rugged schist hills and the blue waters of Lake Dunstan, it marks the start (or end) of many Central Otago trail adventures. It’s a striking piece of engineering that contrasts beautifully with the natural landscape.
