Itinerary
1
Koblenz
The tour begins in Koblenz, one of Germany's oldest and largest cities. The beautiful vibrant Old Town of Koblenz is a perfect starting point for you to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
20 minutes
2
Schloss Stolzenfels
After hotel pick-up, we venture upstream on the legendary Rhine River. Along its left bank, we first encounter the 13th-century Stolzenfels Castle, a Gothic Revival masterpiece nestled against lush greenery.
3
Marksburg
Then, you will sightsee the gorgeous Marksburg Castle, perching above the town of Braubach. Located on the same side of the ride, the 10th-century fortress, one of the most intact and significant sites of the complex, offers a fascinating look at German medieval military engineering, featuring “bergfrieds,” or butter-churn towers.
4
Boppard
Continue to cross the river by ferry and arrive at Boppard, the site of early Celtic and Roman settlements. Driving through numerous historic sites within the city’s medieval walls will give you a glimpse into the considerable center of commerce and shipping during the Middle Ages.
25 minutes
5
Kamp-Bornhofen
Following this, we head to Kamp-Bornhofen, where we’ll see the "Hostile Brothers" castles—Mouse and Cat—and discover the intriguing stories behind these rival fortresses. Also, we won’t miss out on some other interesting sights that the town has to offer.
6
Oberwesel
Next, it’s time for a delightful stroll along the breezy medieval walls surrounding the picturesque Oberwesel. From high up there, you can appreciate stunning vistas across the Rhine River as well as the skyline of historic buildings of the ancient town.
50 minutes
7
Bacharach
The next destination to explore is Bacharach, where you can immerse yourself in the romantic atmosphere of century-old half-timbered houses decorated with flowers, quaint restaurants, vintage coffee shops, and old vineyards. The atmospheric town boasts the most well-preserved sites, including Reichenstein Castle and Rheinstein Castle, and two smaller ones, Sooneck and Stahleck. We will also have some refreshments at an old post station where you get to savor hearty local wines and desserts.
1 hour and 30 minutes
8
Bingen am Rhein
After the relaxing break, we will head to the ancient port of Bingen on a ferry. The once prosperous area located at the confluence of the Rhine and Nahe and its nostalgic historical architecture will offer you a trip back in time as we drive through the town.
25 minutes
9
Ruedesheim am Rhein
On the next step, we arrive in the postcard-picture Rudesheim villages and explore their labyrinth of cobblestone alleys, centuries-old vineyards, and lovely cottages. Less crowded and bustling than neighboring towns, Rudesheim’s peaceful ambiance makes it a perfect place for a leisurely stroll and watching locals in their daily lives.
30 minutes
10
Schloss Schoenburg
Finally, take a scenic route back to Koblenz. Along the way, you will have a chance to marvel at more of the castles, palaces, fortresses, and ruins along the Rhine Valley, including Schonburg Castle, Rheinfels Fortress, etc., as well as the previous sites once more time before the ride takes you back to the comfort of your hotel.
