Diaolou in Chinese, were listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2007. First built in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), these multi-storied houses were built as small fortresses and watch towers for protection.
After lunch, head to the Liyuan Garden. Built in 1926, this garden holds a combination of traditional Chinese landscaping as well as western architectural style.
Then, pay a visit to the Chi Kan Old Town. With its traditional architecture and beautiful views, the town is now a popular place for movie and television drama shoots.

Kaiping Diaolou and Villages
It includes three main attractions of Zili, Li yuan and Chikan Village.
Liyuan, the best preserved and renovated of all the villages, which hosts a museum about overseas Chinese culture. It displays the beauty of traditional Chinese architecture, and delicately matches the current popular European and American villa architecture features.
Zili Village is the best preserved Diaolou (Watch Towers) villages that are listed as cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2007. Zili Village is the most popular site for its scenery and numbers of Diaolous. You can walk up some of the towers to view the quiet countryside.
