Itinerary
1
Basilica of San Clemente
The first stop will be at the Basilica of San Clemente. A building that tells the story of Christianity in an extraordinary way, with three overlapping archaeological levels, dating back to different eras
15 minutes
2
Arcibasilica di San Giovanni in Laterano
Afterwards we will head to the Papal Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, "the cathedral of Rome". It is the mother church of the Catholic Church and the residence of the pope as bishop of Rome. Built in the fourth century by Constantine, it is the oldest of the papal basilicas. Inside you will find the magnificent Holy Staircase (the staircase that, according to tradition, Jesus ascended to Jerusalem). San Giovanni in Laterano is also home to the Lateran Archbasilica, a symbol of the bond between the Church and the city of Rome
25 minutes
3
Basilica di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme
Another stop will be at the Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, one of the seven Jubilee Churches in Rome. It was built on a residence of Empress Helena, Constantine’s mother, and houses some of the most important Christian relics, including fragments of the True Cross
20 minutes
4
Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore
Afterwards, we will visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, dedicated to the Virgin Mary and located on the Esquiline Hill. Famous for its medieval mosaics depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin, the basilica also houses one of the most important Christian relics: the Sacred Cradle, which, according to tradition, once contained the baby Jesus.
25 minutes
5
Chiesa di Santo Spirito in Sassia
Another church we will admire is the Church of the Holy Spirit in Sassia, located a few steps from the Vatican. This church is renowned for its connection to the Jesuit movement and for its care of the souls of pilgrims.
15 minutes
6
Vatican City
The last stop will be St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, the most famous and largest of the papal basilicas. Located in the heart of Vatican City, it is one of the holiest places for Christians and a symbol of Catholicism. Designed by architects such as Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini, it houses the tomb of St. Peter.
