Stopping first along Marine Drive at Douglas Head, we get a beautiful panorama view of Douglas and beyond. Then we have an opportunity to watch sea birds soaring along the cliffs or on the water. This area is also a hunting ground for Peregrine and Raven's may be seen in the skies as well as Chough. Scanning the Irish sea below us we can look for any passing marine life.

Ayres National Nature Reserve
We will explore some of our protected and rare habitats such as the Ayres National Nature Reserve with its distinctive landscape of shingle, sand dunes and beautiful lichen heath where a number of Orchids can be seen; many of the hedgerows are left with minimal management and so are brimming with exquisite flora and fauna.

Point of Ayre Lighthouse
As we visit the most northerly point on the Island we are now closer to Scotland at just 14 miles away than we are from the Capital Douglas. This area is known as the Northern plain and is mad up from sand and gravel that were deposited during and after the last Ice Age. The low lying lichen heath and shingle beaches provide a haven for a variety of wildlife. Depending on the season there will be opportunity to look for Choughs, Nesting Terns and various Waders and Sea birds. Atlantic Grey Seals are often seen bobbing around in the water or hauled up on the shore resting.
