Fort Charlotte
Fort Charlotte, located in Lucea, in the parish of Hanover, was built in the mid 18th Century by the British for the defence of the North North Westerly section of the island. It was built during the reign of King George III of England, and is named after his consort, Charlotte. The fort was built with a barrack capable of housing 50 men. The fort had 23 embrasures for 23 guns, 20 of which were mounted.
During the Napoleonic Wars it was thought that the guns at the fort were insufficient to guard the harbour, so in 1807, three 24 pounders on traversing carriages were installed on the seaward side of the fort. The fort is built of rectangular cut stone and has several openings toward the sea. Inside the fort is the remains of the circular base for the rotation of guns which were placed there so that they could shoot from every possible angle. The Artillery Store still stands and is made of cutstone. It has buttesses and a gable ended roof.

Tryall Golf Course
The gigantic Tryall water–wheel is nearly 200 years old and still turning.
This still functioning cast iron Water Wheel is said to be over 200 years old. It stands on the majestic Tryall Club in Hanover. Although it apparently suffered serious damage in the slave revolt of 1831 it has since been restored. The Tryall Estate is on the main road between Hopewell and Sandy Bay, Hanover. It has been maintained as an attraction with a Golf Course and Beach Club. The history of the Tryall Club is an interesting one. History says that the over 2,000 acre property was home (and quite possibly a burial ground) to the Arawak Indians, the original inhabitants of Jamaica before the Spanish came. The property was also a sugar/slave plantation.
At some point in the 1800s the Tryall property, a sugar plantation, was purchased by Eugene Browne who apparently purchased Tryall with the intention of ceasing the production of sugar cane.Travelers can also see and purchase souvenirs here from locals
