Abandoned Village of Kayakoy
Kayakoy is a ghost village with a rich history. Once known as Levissi, it was a thriving Greek settlement until the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923.
The village was subsequently abandoned, leaving behind over 500 stone houses, two historic churches, and several chapels scattered across the hillside. The silent, weathered structures tell stories of a vibrant community that once flourished here.
Today, Kayakoy stands as an open-air museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the past amidst breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and distant sea. The village is also a popular stop along the Lycian Way, attracting history enthusiasts, photographers, and travelers seeking a peaceful retreat. Kayakoy remains a poignant reminder of cultural heritage and the impacts of history on communities.
