Handmade Japanese Paper Experience in Yoshino (Nara)
About
Kuzu district, Yoshino Town, Nara Prefecture
Kuzu Village is a production area for three types of traditional washi (Japanese paper): Uda paper, Misu paper, and Yoshino paper. These papers play a vital role in preserving Japan's cultural heritage and some are also used internationally for restoring paintings. Their hallmark features are their remarkable thinness and strength.
The handmade washi-making techniques of Yoshino are said to have been passed down for over a thousand years. This experience offers participants the unique opportunity to learn about and use traditional tools, such as the sudare (bamboo screen), which are typically not available in standard workshops.
