Lion of Chaeronea
This half-day tour explores one of the most consequential battles fought on Greek soil. A militarily brilliant victory establishing Macedonian hegemony over the city-states and setting the stage for Alexander’s conquests.
At Chaeronea, the battle of 338 BC is reconstructed by our expert military advisors in gripping detail. Standing on the ground itself, you follow the full action step: the allied Athenian-Theban deployment, the disciplined advance of the formidable Macedonian phalanx and the decisive maneuver that broke the allied armies. Special attention is given to battlefield innovation, particularly the coordination between Philip II of Macedon and his cavalry and the decisive role played by the young Alexander the Great – and the destruction to the last man of the elite Theban Sacred Band.
Set amid quiet, expansive countryside, it offers the powerful experience of walking on the ground stepped by Alexander the Great, one of the greatest military leaders in world history.
