Zhoushan
cross the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, then enter the Zhoushan bridge complex. Cross the Jintang Bridge, Xihoumen Bridge, and other sea bridges to enter China’s largest archipelago. Where safe and permitted, stop briefly to photograph the spectacular interplay of bridges and sea

Zhujiajian Island
free, undeveloped beach. You can walk in the waves and play in the sand. The access road is very narrow – watch for oncoming traffic and pedestrians. On sunny days, the water appears a light yellowish-green – not the clear blue of tropical seas, but raw and natural.

Zhujiajian Wushitang
A rare black pebble beach. Waves washing over the pebbles produce a unique rumbling sound. When weather conditions are right, you may see a color line where nearshore silty water meets clearer offshore water – an interesting contrast. Sitting on the black pebbles, letting the sea breeze hit you, and tossing stones into the sea – a long-lost ritual of relaxation for city dwellers.
