Chapel of Bones
Constructed in the 16th century by Franciscan monks, who faced a pressing issue: the city's cemeteries were overflowing. To make room for new burials, many bones from older graves were exhumed and placed within the chapel’s walls, creating the spooky display of human remains you see today. This practice was partly driven by the aftermath of the Black Death, which had ravaged Europe and caused significant population loss. The chapel was designed to remind visitors of the transient nature of life and the certainty of death, with the phrase "We bones that are here, await yours" inscribed on its walls. It’s a powerful reflection of the time's attitude toward mortality and the cycles of life and death.

Giraldo Square (Praça do Giraldo) is the heart of Évora, a vibrant public space surrounded by historic buildings. It has been a meeting point for locals and visitors for centuries, offering a lively atmosphere with cafés and shops. The square is named after the knight Geraldo Sem Pavor, who helped capture the city from the Moors in the 12th century.

Also known as the Cathedral of Saint Mary, is a magnificent example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture. Built in the 12th century, it stands as one of Portugal's oldest and most important religious sites. The cathedral's imposing façade, vast interior, and beautiful cloisters make it a must-see attraction in the city, while its panoramic views from the roof offer a stunning perspective of Évora.
