Ellora Caves
You will be picked up from your hotel in Mumbai and driven to the airport for your flight to Aurangabad (flight fare excluded). At Aurangabad airport you will be met by your guide who will escort you to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Ellora Caves.
Built between the 6th to the 10th century A.D., these Hindu, Buddhist and Jain cave temples are not only a unique artistic creation but also stand testimony to the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India.
Of the 100 cave temples in the area, only 34 are open to the public. The most magnificent of these is the 8th century Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), which at a height of 105 feet is the largest rock-cut structure in the world. The walls of the caves are decorated by high-relief friezes and carvings depicting scenes from Indian mythology.
After exploring the caves, drive back into town and take lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant.
