Itinerary
1
Ahu Vaihu
Our adventure begins at Vaihu, a sacred site where a series of fallen Moai still resonate with the echo of their powerful past. The ocean wind will be your soundtrack as you explore this intriguing archaeological site.
30 minutes
2
Ahu Akahanga
From Vaihu, your local guide will take you to Ahu Akahanga, a sacred site where ancient kings once ruled. Located on the southeastern coast of the island, this ceremonial platform remains unrestored—giving you a chance to experience it just as the first European explorers did. The ahu stretches nearly 59 feet (18 meters) and once supported around a dozen moai statues. It’s also believed to be the burial place of Hotu Matu’a, the first Polynesian king to settle Rapa Nui. As you walk the grounds, you'll see toppled moai with their distinctive pukao (stone topknots), a striking reminder of past tribal conflicts.

3
Ahu Tongariki
Your next stop is Ahu Tongariki, the most iconic and grand ceremonial platform on the island. Set dramatically along the coastline, it features fifteen towering moai standing shoulder to shoulder with the vast Pacific Ocean as their backdrop. This awe-inspiring site showcases the power, artistry, and engineering of the ancient Rapa Nui civilization. In 1960, a massive tsunami swept the statues inland, some being thrown hundreds of feet. Thanks to a major restoration project completed in 1992, Tongariki was returned to its former glory—offering visitors one of the most unforgettable views on Easter Island.
1 hour and 30 minutes
4
Rano Raraku
Next, we visit Rano Raraku, famously known as the “Moai Quarry.” This volcanic site is where ancient Rapa Nui sculptors carved hundreds of moai directly from the mountain’s stone slopes. While many were transported to ahu across the island, over 400 statues remain here—unfinished and frozen in time—scattered across the hillside. This is the true birthplace of the moai, and walking among these silent giants offers a powerful sense of history and mystery. Don’t miss the breathtaking panoramic views of the quarry and the crater lake nestled within the volcano.

Ahu Te Pito Kura
Our journey continues to Te Pito Kura, home to the largest moai ever successfully transported and erected on an ahu. Standing over 10 meters tall, this colossal figure is a testament to the incredible skill and determination of the Rapa Nui people. Nearby lies the enigmatic rounded stone known as Te Pito ʻo te Henua, or “The Navel of the World.” Said to possess spiritual and magnetic energy, this sacred site is surrounded by myths and legends that still intrigue visitors today.

6
Ahu Nau Nau
Then, we will discover Ahu Nau Nau, one of Easter Island’s best-preserved ceremonial platforms, located near the beautiful Anakena Beach. Home to seven impressive moai—four adorned with rare red stone topknots—this site is believed to be where the first king, Hotu Matu’a, landed. Immerse yourself in the rich history and stunning artistry of Rapa Nui culture at this iconic location.

Anakena Beach
Finally, we conclude our journey at the idyllic Anakena Beach—a tropical paradise with swaying palm trees and crystal-clear waters. Take some time to relax with a refreshing swim, reflect on the incredible sights you’ve experienced, and soak in the energy of this ancient, mysterious land. Nearby, explore the exceptionally well-preserved seven moai of Ahu Nau Nau, four of which proudly wear their red pukao headpieces. Archaeologists even discovered a nearly complete coral eye inlaid with red volcanic scoria stone here, adding to the site’s fascinating history.
After enjoying the beach, we’ll safely return you to your accommodation. If you wish to stay longer, your guide can help arrange a taxi at your own expense whenever you’re ready. Changing rooms with showers are available onsite for a small fee.
