Amarante
One of the most charming towns in Northern Portugal is that of Amarante, a settlement characterised by its impressive bridge and architecture that is typical of the European region. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Serra do Marão mountain range and a plethora of gorgeous vineyards which produce vinho verde (a green wine that Portugal is known for).

Provesende
Provesende is situated close to the river Douro, between Pinhão and Sabrosa It is a really charming Douro village perched high on the hills above the Douro river with spectacular views down the Pinhão valley. Provesende has a beautiful church in the central square, an ancient pillory and fountain and a wonderfully old-fashioned bakery which the owner is delighted to show you round. There are also a couple of cafés and a restaurant with very good local food. Provesende is our spot for Lunch.

The Douro Valley
The Douro River and the Douro Valley are known primarily for Port, a sweet wine that has been produced here for two thousand years, along with less well-known red and white table wines. The Alto (upper) Douro, also known as the Douro Vinhateiro is dominated by big placards on the hillsides bearing the names of famous Port producers such as Cockburns, Taylors and Sandeman. The spectacular landscape is characterised by improbably steep terraces covered in vines and dotted with wine-producing farms called quintas.
Here we will learn about Porto wine history doing a visit and a Porto wine tasting in a Quinta.
A river boat cruise (one hour - shared) is also included in our trip.
