The first of our Rome hidden gems is underneath the Church of San Crisogono in the very hip Trastevere neighborhood .⁠ This church is built on top of its ancient version, which still preserves a lot of its super ancient frescoes, marbles and structures. ⁠

The Basilica of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere itself is already a cradle of many stories, but the wonder continues when you go downstairs and explore the underground.⁠ The church was built in the very place where Saint Cecilia was killed - her own house. So under the church you can visit the crypt with the archaeological excavations of the ancient Roman insula (apartment building) of Cecilia.

A picturesque corner of the Rione Trastevere, this little square is nestled between the Monumental Complex of San Michele a Ripa and the splendid Basilica of Santa Cecilia and recalls the atmosphere of Rome of yesteryear. Very special local vibe and characteristic restaurants like Osteria dei Mercanti and Meo Patacca.

Here you can enjoy the spectacular view over the city from the belvedere of the Orange Garden - an entirely symmetrical park with a large, central avenue that opens out into a breathtaking viewpoint. Next to it, The Basilica of St. Sabina, built in the 5th century, one of the best examples of early Christian basilica in Rome.

On the Caelian Hill, located in front of the Palatine Hill, you can walk on a charming cobble stone pathway topped with ancient roman arches until you arrive at the beautiful Basilica of Santo Stefano Rotondo al Celio, a 5th-century church with a unique circular design -its center is surrounded by 25 marble columns, and the walls are decorated with a series of frescoes.

Few steps away from the Pantheon, here you can admire a beautiful statue from Michelangelo, the superb ceilings of the only Gothic church in Rome… Rome has more than 900 churches, and it’s incredible how each and every one of them has something special!⁠

Just steps from the Trevi Fountain, the Galliera Sciarra is a beautiful courtyard that often goes unnoticed. Although privately owned, it’s open to the public during regular work hours. Built in the 1800s, what makes this space unique is its walls that are covered in intricate frescoes painted in Art Nouveau by Gabriele Cellini. The building now serves as an office space. For some people this is their everyday commute!

The Trevi Fountain is a must-see for a reason, but the next best fountain in Rome can be found on Janiculum Hill. The Fontana dell’Acqua Paola is a spectacular fountain that was designed in the 17th century by Giovanni Fontana. It’s a great stop for memorable pics on your way up to the top of the hill.

This is one the best viewpoints in Rome. Surprisingly, the Janiculum hill isn’t one of Rome’s original “seven hills,” as it technically sits outside the boundaries of the original ancient city. However, don't missi to make your way to the terrace at Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, near Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument for a stunning view of of the ancient city. Here, for over 100 years, a cannon has been fired daily at 12:00 PM.

The Portico d’Ottavia is an ancient gate built around 24 BC by Augustus. This area, called the Jewish Ghetto, is one of the most unique spots in the eternal city. For Colosseum vibes without the crowds, visit the nearby Theatre of Marcellus, an open-air amphitheater completed around 13 BC – 100 years before the Colosseum. Commissioned by Julius Caesar (though completed after his death), it held 20,000 people, making it the largest amphitheater in Rome at the time.
