Itinerary
1
Fall Creek Falls State Park
On this full-day guided hiking adventure we journey approximately 2.5 hours east of our Nashville meet up location deep into the heart of the Cumberland Plateau. Don’t worry, we’ll make a brief pitstop about halfway along our journey for an opportunity to stretch and use the “potty” lol.
We will hike approx. 4 - 5 miles over steep, rocky and slippery terrain.
2 hours and 30 minutes
2
Cane Creek Falls
We begin our adventure Cane Creek Falls (85') and Cascades (45'). There is a short walk from the parking lot the observation deck and nature center. There is a also a short but fairly steep trail to the creek bed near the base of the cascades. We will explore this area for about 30-45 minutes before crossing cane creek via a suspended bridge.
45 minutes
3
Cane Creek Falls Overlook Trail
Experience an exhilarating crossing of Cane Creek suspension bridge - 120ft long and 20ft high above the rushing rapids below. Then we hike the gorge rim approx. 0.75 mile to the Cane Creek Falls Overlook. This is a cliff based vantage point high above Cane Creek offering stunning views of 85 foot tall Cane Creek Falls and the impressively tall Rockhouse Falls measuring in at 120 feet.
45 minutes
4
Fall Creek Falls Overlook
After taking in the views from Cane Creek Overlook, we continue our gorge rim adventure for another 1.25 miles towards the feature attraction, Fall Creek Falls. We will stop at the famous Falls Creek Falls overlook. We'll spend a bit of time here to allow ample opportunity to soak in the spectacle of these truly amazing waterfalls - Fall Creek Falls measuring an astonishing 256' and its neighboring fall, Coon Creek Falls at 250'. Both of these falls are some of the tallest waterfalls East of the Mississippi River and each have impressive shear vertical drops of 250 feet or more.
1 hour
5
Fall Creek Falls
Now the real adventure begins as we make the steep and rocky 0.5 mile trek to the base of Fall Creek Falls.
The Base of Falls Trail is Very Strenuous!
It descends over 300ft vertically within a half-mile across uneven, slippery rocks. This is an out and back trail. Therefore, we must climb 1/2 mile up those same steep, slippery rocky steps.
1 hour and 30 minutes
6
Fall Creek Falls Betty Dunn Nature Center
Next we take a forest trail back to the nature center parking lot. Along the way we will once again cross over the Cane Creek suspended bridge.
