Choquequirao or cradle of gold in Quechua, is located at 3,085 meters of altitude, carved in stone by the Incas, where the organization of the Empire of Tawantinsuyo (The four regions) was strictly directed by an Inca ruler. Choquequirao is protected by the Apurimac River. and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains of Yanama, Ampay, Choquetarpu and Pumasillo. This is a classic of the Inca city, with the sacred sectors, ritual temples, astronomical, urban and agricultural centers. Only 30% of its total area was excavated, but an alliance between the governments of Peru and France promised to accelerate the work and bet to convert it into a new Machu Picchu.
