Panauti, a short distance from Dhulikhel, is a historic town believed to be over 800 years old. It is celebrated for its ancient temples, intricate woodwork, and the confluence of three rivers, which locals consider sacred. The town hosts the famous Makar Mela every 12 years, drawing visitors from across the country. Panauti is also a UNESCO tentative site, showcasing well-preserved Newari culture and heritage.
