Itinerary
1
Vat Visounarath
Depending on the location of your hotel, we usually commence our tour with the Wat Visoun, Luang Prabang’s oldest temple and once home to a famous Prabang Buddha. Also known as Wat Visunalat, the temple's most notable feature is the large squat stupa in its forecourt.
1 hour
2
Wat Aham
One of the smaller temples in Luang Prabang is the Wat Aham. The temple itself consists of an ornate wall and two ancient stupas and is the home of old banyan trees that are considered to harbour a holy spirit.
45 minutes
3
Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham
Continue your Luang Prabang trip, the Wat Mai is the largest and most richly decorated of all the temples in Luang Prabang.
45 minutes
4
Wat Xiengthong
We end the morning at the Wat Xieng Thong, one of the icons of Luang Prabang’s plethora of Buddhist temples. The most beautiful details are the walls of the temple, decorated with delicate gold patterns on a maroon background and still are.
1 hour
5
Royal Palace Museum
After lunch at a local restaurant, we enter the compound of Laos’ Royal Palace Museum, housing the most important treasures of Laos’ recent past. The famed Pha Bang Buddha image is enshrined here besides the collection of personal artefacts of the royal family, including the royal throne of the Lan Xang Kingdom.
1 hour
6
Wat Sensoukharam
The afternoon starts with a unique temple called Wat Sene. The temple’s name is said to come from a donation of 100,000 Kip (Sene kip in Laotian) which was used to construct the temple during the 18th century.
45 minutes
7
Mount Phousi
For those with the stamina and the will to see the town from the highest point at the very end of the day, Mount Phousi is the place to be. It is topped by a golden stupa (called “That Chomsi”) and is one of the first sights of Luang Prabang that arriving visitors will gaze upon. The views and the sunsets are simply spectacular.
After the sun has set and we have climbed down the stairs, your driver will comfortably bring you back to your hotel.
